Start with your goal

What should your suspension do?

Pick the goal that matters most. This helper suggests a build direction and a parts checklist; it does not verify a kit for your vehicle.

Start with a matched spring and damper plan.

A modest fixed drop can suit lowering springs. Check the exact spring application, damper compatibility, remaining travel, and alignment before selecting a set.

Browse lowering springs ↗ · Browse matched packages ↗

Choose by use, not just height

Four directions. Different commitments.

System Height change Good starting goal Plan alongside it
Lowering springs Usually a fixed, application-specific drop. Adjustable spring kits are a separate category. A simpler street stance change. Compatible dampers, mounts, travel and alignment.
Coilovers Mechanical adjustment within the kit’s approved range. Adjustable stance or a more tunable chassis. Mounts, clearances, spring rates, damping and geometry.
Air suspension Air pressure changes spring support; controls manage presets and height. Adjust height between suitable driving and parked settings. Vehicle-specific air hardware plus management, tank, compressor and plumbing.
Lift / leveling kits Raises the vehicle or changes rake; method and range depend on the kit. Truck stance, tire clearance or an engineered off-road setup. Correct shocks, alignment, steering, travel and driveline requirements.
Budget for the complete installation.

Compare parts, installation, alignment, required corrections, and maintenance. A lower initial kit price does not establish the lower finished cost.

Lowering springs

A spring supports the vehicle and sets the relationship between load and ride height. A lowering set changes that relationship for a specific application. The shock or strut controls how quickly the suspension moves.

Choose the exact engine, body and axle-load application. Inspect existing dampers and mounts; check whether the manufacturer allows the factory dampers or specifies replacements.

Coilovers

A matched spring-and-damper system offers height adjustment; some also offer damping adjustment. Some rear suspensions still use a separate spring and shock within a “coilover kit.”

Height, preload, compression and rebound are different adjustments. Their relationship depends on the design. More adjustment clicks do not automatically mean better ride quality.

Air suspension

An air spring uses compressed air to support the load. Management, valves, plumbing and air supply control it. Dampers still control motion.

A pair of front or rear air struts may be only one part of a system. Check what is included before assuming a “kit” contains management or every corner.

Shop air hardware ↗Understand the complete air system ↗
Choose comfort through the whole system.

Ride quality depends on spring rate, damping, travel, tires, vehicle load and setup. Lowering farther or adding stiffer parts can reduce useful travel; choose an approved driving height rather than a look alone.

Leveling kits

Leveling changes front-to-rear rake, often by raising the front. A spacer, adjustable strut or other kit can achieve it differently. Loaded stance may differ from unloaded stance.

Check trim-specific factory height, suspension type and the kit’s limits. A leveling kit is not automatically a long-travel upgrade.

Suspension lift kits

A suspension lift changes the chassis-to-wheel relationship. Kit design may involve springs, knuckles, crossmembers or other components. Taller shocks alone are not a complete lift.

Travel & geometry corrections

Review shock compressed/extended lengths, bump stops, arm and ball-joint angles, brake/ABS line travel, sway-bar links, track-bar location and CV/driveshaft clearance.

The required parts vary by platform and lift height. Buy corrections specified by the kit manufacturer rather than adding every accessory automatically.

Read the lift planning guide ↗ReadyLIFT: control-arm compatibility ↗
Tire clearance is a separate check.

A lift height is not a guaranteed tire size. Wheel width, offset/backspacing, tire dimensions, turning clearance, full compression and kit-specific wheel requirements still matter. A body lift differs from a suspension lift and does not itself increase suspension travel.

The parts around the kit

Build the system around your suspension.

Camber, caster & toe

Ride-height changes can move alignment away from the intended specification. Camber arms or plates address camber; toe links and other adjusters do different jobs. A camber kit does not replace an alignment.

The right combination depends on the vehicle, kit and measured alignment. Every car does not need camber arms, and every lift does not need every bracket.

Towing & load support

Helper air springs and load-support kits manage sag under load. They are different from performance air systems used for adjustable stance.

Adding air springs does not increase the vehicle’s published GVWR, GAWR or towing ratings. Verify compatibility with any existing lift and hitch installation.

Before you choose

Questions customers ask.

Can I reuse my stock shocks?

Only when the spring or kit manufacturer allows that application and the dampers are in suitable condition. Review travel and service needs; a spring set does not repair a worn damper.

Does a coilover always adjust damping?

No. Some only adjust height; others adjust rebound, combined damping or separate circuits. Read the actual series specification.

Can I drive fully aired out?

Use the manufacturer’s approved driving height and travel. A parked display setting may lack tire, chassis or suspension clearance.

Do I automatically need a camber kit?

No. Determine the target alignment and measure what the platform’s factory adjustment can achieve at the chosen height. Choose correction hardware when needed.

Will a lift let me fit any larger tire?

No. Follow the kit’s wheel and tire requirements and check clearance at full steering and compression. Offset and actual tire dimensions matter.

Can I stack a spacer on an existing lift?

Use only combinations expressly supported by the kit manufacturers. Do not assume additive height means compatible geometry or travel.

What should my quote include?

The exact kit, missing system components, required corrections, installation, alignment, any calibration and maintenance or service items.
