Do I need special tools to install this?
Basic hand tools and a socket set are sufficient. You'll need a way to remove the wheel and brake components to access the mounting points—standard jack and jack stands. Some shops use a press to remove the old hub, but hand tools work if you have patience.
What if my old bearing is seized or rusted to the spindle?
Penetrating oil applied overnight before removal makes a major difference. If it's still stuck, a bearing puller or small press will get it off without damage to the spindle. Don't hammer it—you'll damage the bore.
Do I need to replace both sides or just one?
If one is failing, the other is likely close behind. Replacing both sides now saves you a second teardown in a few months. If only one is bad and the other is solid, you can replace just the one—but inspect both before you button up.
