What is the purpose of the double hump and the rings?

The double hump is ideal for applications that have extreme movement in their systems. When a single hump coupler is not enough, these double hump couplers will take the abuse from extreme engine rock in engines with softer engine mounts or, for example, diesel applications. For setups like high performance off-road vehicles or road racing cars, their engines have a lot of axial movement, so they require couplers that can take much more directional force including compression, expansion, lateral twisting, etc.

Single hump couplers can only compensate for around 5 degrees of misalignment. Double hump couplers can compensate for nearly 20 degrees of misalignment - that is a massive jump in utility. These couplers are built for extreme movement and boost, so they include three stainless steel rings to help with balloning under high boost pressure.

How do I choose the right size for me?

If you are unsure what size you need, measure the outer diameter of the pipe or connection and match it the best you can to our table below. If the exact size is not available, the next smaller size may suffice depending on the elasticity and application. Give us a call if you are still unsure!

What is the difference between silicone couplers and rubber couplers?

Silicone couplers offer better resistance and longevity over rubber. Rubber is cheap and easy to manufacture, which is why nearly all cars from the factory come with rubber couplers for intercooler and charge pipe connections that will wear out and cause boost leaks over time. By choosing silicone over rubber, you are performing cheap maintanence and preventing wear-and-tear failures.

What sets BOOST silicone couplers apart from the competition?

There are several factors that make our silicone truly unique. Every silicone hose or coupler that leaves our warehouse comes with an imprinted QR code that contains all of our rigorous testing protocols and burst pressures. You yourself can check and verify this information to ensure you are getting a silicone hose backed with the most thorough quality assurance standards on the market.

BOOST silicone also all come with a high Shore A hardness rating. Shore A hardness is a scale to determine the hardness of plastics and rubber, that scale goes from 0-100. Our silicone comes with a 70 (±5) Shore A hardness, which means it doesn't bend easily and retains much better shape under pressure or vacuum loads than the more commonly found 40 Shore A hardness in other silicone. So with our hardness rating, you can be sure you are getting proper function under boost or intake applications without deformation.

What type of clamps should I use on this coupler?

We recommend using T-bolt clamps or torque clamps - both of which we offer! Not only can standard worm gear clamps cut into the silicone, they are not designed to withstand the abuse these couplers will see. T-bolt clamps or torque clamps are meant to be torqued down in a way that keeps the coupler secure even under high pressure and is your absolute best option.

Some other things to consider...

Remember that the diameter always refers to the inner diameter, so be sure to consider that when choosing the size for you.

An easy way to figure out the right clamp size, multply the hose's wall thickness by 2. That will give you the right size!

If you are having trouble finding the exact size, the next smaller size is usually enough to suffice.
