It replaces the factory rubber intake pipe with a smooth mandrel-bent aluminum tube and an open conical filter, which makes all the induction noise the stock airbox was hiding. Third and fourth gear pulls sound way better with this intake on. It's compatible with the factory turbo inlet pipe, so you're not replacing your entire intake tract just to get turbo sounds.
Turbo Noises and Induction Sound

Short ram intakes pull air from the engine bay, which is hotter than outside air. DC Sports includes an aluminum heatshield to block some of the radiant heat from the engine so the intake isn't pulling air that's 20 degrees hotter than it needs to be. It's not as effective as a sealed cold air box, but it helps manage intake temps better than a fully open filter sitting in the engine bay.
